      • Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer
      • Male District Leader Anthony Feliciano
      • State Committeeman Michael Farrin
      • Chino Garcia, Executive Director of CHARAS

WHEN:          Tuesday, January 6th, 2015, 2:00 PM – 2:30 PM

WHERE:       The Steps of City Hall

Councilwoman Rosie Mendez will be joined by colleagues, community residents and “3 Kings” to deliver frankincense, myrrh and gold (chocolate coins) with over a thousand holiday cards, petitions and a letter to Mayor Bill de Blasio requesting one holiday gift–the return of the former CHARAS/Old PS64 building to the Lower East Side/East Village for community use. Elected officials and residents of the Lower East Side are urging the Mayor to help return to the community the historic landmarked building that was saved by the community in the 1970’s.

The building located at 605 East 9th Street in Manhattan was auctioned off and sold by Mayor Guiliani 15 years ago and has now been vacant for 13 years. On September 22, 2014, the Department of Buildings (DOB) issued a Stop Work Order to halt construction that may have begun under a Partial Work Permit that was issued based on misinformation filed with DOB by the principle owner, Gregg Singer.
